Why We Started Steel Bridge Solutions
Every company has a founding irritation. Ours was watching good businesses pay for technology twice: once to have it built, and again — indefinitely — to keep the people who built it on the payroll.
We had seen it from both sides. Operating companies — trades, clinics, agencies, local firms with real customers on the phone — were being sold "AI transformation" as an open-ended journey. Retainers with no destination. Dashboards nobody asked for. Systems that only the supplier understood, which meant the supplier could never be let go.
Meanwhile the technology itself had quietly become genuinely useful. A voice agent really can answer every call, qualify the caller and book the appointment. A well-built website really can carry payments and bookings without a human touching them. A team really can be taught, in weeks, to use AI on their own work.
The gap was never the technology. It was the way it was being sold.
Automation, built like infrastructure
So we set up Steel Bridge Solutions around a simple idea: automation should be bought the way you buy any other piece of business infrastructure. You agree what will be built, what it will cost and how you will know it works — in writing, before anything starts. It gets built, tested against your real cases, documented and handed over. Then it belongs to you.
That idea shapes everything about how we operate:
- Fixed prices, agreed in writing. If the scope is right, the price should not move.
- A deliberately narrow catalogue. We build three things well rather than everything badly.
- Documentation and handover as standard. Credentials, guides, the lot. No lock-in, ever.
- The right to stop. Projects are billed against milestones, and you can stop at any milestone boundary.
Why "Steel Bridge"?
A bridge is the most honest kind of engineering there is. It is scoped before it is built. It is tested before anyone crosses it. It does one job, visibly, for decades — and nobody has to pay the engineer a monthly fee to keep it standing.
That is the standard we hold our work to. Registered in England (company no. 17361021) and based in London, we build for operating companies across the UK.
This blog is where we will write about that work — what we build, what we learn and what we think business owners should know before they spend a pound on AI. Welcome.
